Yep, spammers found their way in here... It started with Viagra topics which I could delete, but I can't do a thing about the rest. Didn't get any spam myself, the bots seem to be smart enough to not send spam to moderators and so on...

Well, I forwarded this. I'd suggest you hide or remove your e-mail address from the forum if you want to block those mails out completely, until this problem is fixed.

Hi,

It indeed was a spammer sending the PM to a lot of members. Once I've noticed I deleted the user. This had as a result that the PM was gone as well. So if you're interested in extending certain parts of your body you need to find a new source of wonder pills ;)

I've changed the way users can register on the forum, it needs to be approved by an admin from now on.

Greetz

I might have activated a spammer account by accident, if there's something unusual, let me know and I'll remove him (BestForumTeam).

I received two messages from two different users, with pretty much the same content:

Quote:
Dear, Oeloe.!

There are viruses' activities from your computer! Highly recommend you to scan your computer for malicious and potentially unwanted software. If you do not follow this, I will have to make a complaint to your Internet Service Provider with attached log file (your IP address, etc.). If you want to find a report about your computer's security and solve every problem with it, please click here: http://www.total-scan.com/detected/Oeloe.
This is an online service that you can use for free spyware removal. Use it to scan your computer to help protect, clean, and keep your computer running at its best. Use the free scan to check for and remove viruses, spyware, and other potentially malicious software and to find vulnerabilities or shortcomings in your Internet security.

Thank you. Yours truly, Curtis Collins.

The above message was sent by "Kurtymann" and the other message was from a user called "Maninblakk".

I received a similar message on a phpBB forum hosted by someone else too.

I'm on a campus network so it's possible that virus activity is coming from our WAN IP. I think it's suspicious that I get nearly the same message from three different sources and it makes me think it's spam as well (although total-scan.com doesn't sell any products I believe).

There are some issues with the spam bots at the moment. If we're sure TheDOG will continue to stay alive and sound, I'll look into upgrading the forum to phpBB 3.x

For now we'll just have to live with the occasional spam. I try to delete as much 'users' as possible, but sometimes I'm just too late. Sorry for that.

I will take care of it. From now on, if someone registers and is identified as spammer, he'll be banned immediately.

Thanx DotS. In my opinion you might as well delete them right away instead of banning them.

Well, there seems to be a regular forum spammer called DotS ;) Other than that it's been quite okay I guess...

We also have a new captcha at the moment, it's this one and it looks promising. Let's see if we still have spambots getting through...

Well, most bots are kept outside now. But I do get registrations where I can hardly (or not at all) tell for sure if it's a bot or a user....

I'll allow registrations unless I'm sure it's a bot, so post here immediately if you receive any spam-PMs.
